Here I am once again. Drinking a cup of iced coffee while writing for today’s post. Listening to Hiroshi Yoshimur’s ‘Green’ album. I’ve been listening to a whole bunch of ambient music I never knew existed during the past few years, and it’s really become one of my favorite musical genres. There are so many gems to unearth when it comes to ambient music. I have an ambient album of my own in the works, which is actually pretty much done, just in the final stage of editing now. Music. Music is great, both listening to it and making it. I’ve had so many wonderful moments throughout my life, blissful moments of just being and enjoying music. They’re too many to count at this point. Granted, most of them were amplified by weed, but it doesn’t change the fact that music is amazing, and that all those moments have been fundamental to me becoming who I am now. It’s only natural that if you amplify something amazing it’ll be even more amazing. Perhaps it’s been the music that’s been amplifying the high as well. So, since the two things amplify each other, the whole experience is amplified on the double. Some would say life is good enough to want to amplify it with weed, yet they would say it while having a cup of coffee. Just had a sip of mine. Where am I going with this? Thought trains… derailing. Music in the background. Beautiful. Soothing. If only life could be just like music. I don’t see why it can’t be. I mean, there is a definite rhythm to life. Perhaps there are too many rhythms going on at once for it to ever be harmonious. No, I know that’s not the case. I am inclined to believe that there is one underlying rhythm. A rhythm that speaks to our souls and serves to connect us all, just like a beautifully touching piece of music. If that’s the case, how do we tap into it? Patch cables. Interesting little things. Routing the audio signal. If you don’t know what I’m talking about check out modular synthesis. Or, maybe just don’t. I recently wrote about feeling a bit uneasy with how much spending goes along with experimenting and playing around, or working with, music equipment, and if I already feel like that, I have a good idea of how I’ll feel when I finally pull the trigger on a modular setup. The thing is the machines are literally calling me. I need to fuck around with them, because it’s just so fun. I’ve already started getting my feet wet though, and these days I can get lost for hours on VCV Rack, which is a free open-source software that pretty much resembles actual modular hardware. I have to say, I’ve been making some of the coolest, most inspirational sounds I’ve ever had the privilege of producing in my life. It’s even easier to patch connections on there than it is with hardware, and the options are basically unlimited, since you’re not constrained by space or budget. Anyway, that’s a bit about me and where I’m at today. I appreciate you reading, and I wish you all the best!
