500 WORDS, DAY 90: Understanding and Kindness

Since nothing better comes to mind for today’s post, I feel like just spreading some positive energy is the best thing I can do. The world is too cruel, and life is too complicated, and we are all going through different issues. I don’t know what you’re going through at this moment, and I don’t know what you’ve been through in your life. However, one thing I do know for sure, is that you have struggled at some point in your life. Suffering and struggle are shared by us all, as they are intrinsic characteristics of the human condition. There’s no need to measure our struggle or our pain against anyone else’s. The fact is that we all struggle, and we all suffer a great deal as we make our way through this thing that we call life. Although I would love to believe that we are all inherently good, and that life itself is ultimately good, I can’t turn a blind eye to the fact that, as a whole, we have become a lot more disconnected from each other in recent years, despite having so many outlets for expression, such as social media and the internet in general. It can be hard to find someone to honestly share our ideas and feelings with, our ambitions and our doubts, to find someone who can help us work through them. I never really put too much thought into these types of things when I was younger, but now that I consider myself extremely blessed to have found a relationship which is exactly as I’ve just described, I realize just how much it was really missing from my life. Growing up, I never truly felt comfortable speaking to my parents about any issues I was going through, even though they were good parents overall. I realize now just how many kids and teenagers are probably growing up in much the same way, with nothing but superficial relationships and friendships, yet with an entire world of imagination hidden within, a world of wonder at the world, at life and all its possibilities. It’s sad to me that, as we seem to advance so far when it comes to science and technology, we neglect becoming better people and learning how to connect better with others, or how to encourage others. I do realize I kind of went off track here, but what I mean to say is that we never know just what anyone else is going through, and that it never hurts to be kind and to be there for others, and to respect others who respect us. The other idea I’m getting at is that, just like we can advance when it comes to knowledge and to technology, I think we definitely have a lot of room for improvement when it comes to our relationships with other people, and our understanding, or willingness to understand and appreciate others for who they are, without trying to change them. Who knows where we could go from here if we focused more of our energy on trying to understand each other and collaborate on things we agree on, rather than arguing and fighting about things we don’t see eye to eye on.

I appreciate you reading!
