When I write about my fascination with the random and weird, the reality is that it comes from a place of understanding. It comes from a place of truly understanding that we are all unique, each and every one of us, and I don’t mean to say that in a cheesy, seemingly inspirational way, I want you to actually ponder the thought. What is weird if not different? In other words, what is unique other than weird? I recognize the strange in myself, so I understand the complexities of human thought, even if only to a degree. I’m not conceited enough to believe that my mind is the most complex of all, I’m sure there’s all kinds of craziness I couldn’t even begin to comprehend inside some people’s heads, just as there has been in the past. DNA, plus the circumstances of each human being’s life, and their reactions to them, all play a huge part in dictating who each person becomes, and everyone’s lives are so different down to the smallest detail. Although I do have some friends, I’ve had a few relationships in the past, and I’m now married, I do relate, in a way, to The Doors’ song ‘People are Strange.’ I’ve always shared Charles Bukowski’s idea, in a way, that it’s better to go through life as an observer. I felt relieved to hear him say it in an interview I saw on YouTube, since it was an idea I had always pondered throughout my life. Basically my love for reading comes from this same love of the random, since I understand that all kinds of people, from different ethnic backgrounds and from different times throughout history, have had all kinds of interesting ideas, some that contradict my own and which might do me some good to ponder, and some which will give me that amazing feeling, that feeling of relating to someone who is considered a genius, at least in poetry or literature, either by the whole world or only by myself, and to realize that maybe my thoughts about society and everything else aren’t so crazy, since there have always been those who have thought them as well, and who have dared to share them. Just as they have inspired me, if I feel a calling to do it then who am I to neglect that, when my thoughts could inspire those living life at the same time as me, or even long after I’m gone? We are always influencing others, as well as being influenced by others. There’s really no escaping it; but then again, there’s no need to, since it’s only life on our planet. I guess if there’s one thing, I would like people to really understand from what I’m saying, it’s that our ideas, yours or mine, are just as important as those of any sophisticated scholar, of any poet or spiritual thinker, of any guru or motivational speaker or whatever else. We are all worlds within ourselves, with infinite complexities that define us, our personalities and our character. I truly believe it would be in everyone’s best interest if we all had the courage to share those complexities with each other more often, if not always. Again, it’s the random and the weird about us that makes us who we are. There’s no need to question it though, because it is what it is, we are who we are and that’s perfectly fine.
