Expectations are tricky. Often times, we would most likely find that we wouldn’t have gotten so disappointment by a situation’s outcome, had we not expected it to go in a very different way. When things don’t go our way, it can sometimes feel like we need to rebel, or simply keep a bad attitude, about the way things are actually going. The truth is that doing this only harming us, and not only is it harming us by making us suffer in that moment, it is also making it more likely for us to suffer in the future. When we realize that something didn’t go exactly as we had planned, but we convince ourselves that it’s for the best, and we find a way to adapt to the new situation, we are building ourselves up. We are learning how to change with life, so we won’t be left behind, because as we all know, change is inevitable. Another thing we have to keep in mind is that, although we may want something really badly, it might not actually be something we need, and it could actually be detrimental for us. Sometimes, when things don’t go our way, it actually ends up being for the better, and we find that things could have gone very wrong if they had actually happened the way we had hoped for. Now, does this mean that we shouldn’t fight for anything? That we shouldn’t stand up for what we want, and that we should let our decisions and general lives be dictated by others? Of course not. All it means is that we have to understand that life is full of surprises. It is crazy and complicated, and it is made up of constant change. When we make a habit of having a bad attitude every time something doesn’t go exactly as we planned it, we are making it harder for us to ever truly enjoy our own lives. On the other hand, if we train ourselves to roll with the punches, to be excited about life no matter what it may throw our way, and to learn to adapt to life’s constant changes, we will be in a much better position to handle whatever changes are on the horizon. Who knows, things not going the way you planned could even be a great unexpected blessing, something truly life-changing. There’s a lot of random stuff that can happen in life, both good and bad, and we have to be ready for whatever. After all, so much of our lives is dictated by how we react to the situations we find ourselves in, and the situations we find ourselves in our often times not ones we could have ever avoided. We find ourselves in these situations because of where we grew up, because of our families, because of random people who want to fuck with us, because of all kinds of things. We can’t control other people, and we can’t control what other people do, but we can learn to control our reactions to what other people do, as well as to whatever life does, and that’s where our true power lies as individuals.
