I thank God that I can see nature and truly love it, that I can recognize the inherent beauty in this life and recognize it as something pure and powerful. I love the fact that I can just look around me and I can enjoy all the colors of the plants, of all the trees and the flowers, of all the different kinds of animals and insects of every kind. I’m thankful because I’m still able to feel joy when I witness how the sun shines over everything and brightens everyone’s day, because I can feel a sense of peace when I watch the ocean swaying back and forth, reflecting the clear blue skies so well that it seems like it’s its own color. I am amazed by the thought that, even if I were to travel to a different city every day of my life, that still would not be enough time to see all the wonders that exist on this planet, which is just one of many in the universe. There would never be enough time to see all the beauty of nature, to meet all the wonderful unique people and to get to know their stories, to be inspired by them and by their cultures, because life is simply too rich with variety, it’s just so much it can be overwhelming. Now, over time we might find that, although we can’t possible meet all the people we would like, or see all the places we wish we could see, we often have our hands full with what we already have, and there is much depth to be explored in the relationships we are already a part of. That idea brings me to something else I’m truly grateful for, which is family, even if it can often be hard to deal with. Family is essential to most species on our planet, and we all owe our existence to other beings. Let’s focus on human family for now though. It is a miracle to me that two people can love each other and decide to reproduce, by performing a mutually pleasurable act. We don’t even have to think about what we’re doing, we’re just caught up in the moment, yet this moment is the gateway to a natural life process, the very process of coming to life, to all that we know. This pleasurable act will then produce another living, breathing, sentient human being, who has visible aspects of each parent. This is the miracle of life, it would seem to me, the grand design of life, that our lives should come to this world as products of pure love. The most intelligent and learned scientists in the world, with their high-tech equipment and laboratories and expert knowledge, have not been able to produce intelligent life up to this day, while we humans are able to create life without even having the most minimal understanding of how we do it. Isn’t this an amazing and confusing mystery? I am simply in awe, and although I’ve always tried to understand it, but the more I grow the more I start to realize that life is probably just for living, not really for trying to understand too much. So, again, spend some time in nature and love it. Beyond all the illusions and everything we’ve invented, all we know is that we’re here in this world, along with everyone else we see here, along with the plants and the animals. It’s just us and this world, and everything else is extra.
