So, having written about various interlinked topics so far in this series, I find myself facing some writer’s block. I knew this day would come, when I would have to face my sworn enemy, and probably that of any serious writer’s, in fact. I can usually do a good job of not letting it affect … Continue reading 500 WORDS, DAY 27: Defeating Writer’s Block… Once Again

500 WORDS, DAY 25: Old-School vs. New-School Hip-Hop
So, with yesterday’s post I started exploring the comparison between old-school and new-school hip-hop. I concluded that, even though both are guilty of including negative content in their lyrics and being careless with their words, at least the earlier generations of rappers cared about the craft and were dedicated to making the music dope. The … Continue reading 500 WORDS, DAY 25: Old-School vs. New-School Hip-Hop
500 WORDS, DAY 22: Where My Current Writing Experiment Has Brought Me
Yesterday I started a recap of where my current daily writing experiment has brought me so far. I didn’t get to finish it, so today is a continuation of my attempt at a recap. As I mentioned, I started Day 1 by questioning the legitimacy of stream-of-consciousness writing, wondering whether writing for the sake of … Continue reading 500 WORDS, DAY 22: Where My Current Writing Experiment Has Brought Me
500 WORDS, DAY 21: Recap / Reason to Write Pt. 2
So, I started this 500-words-a-day experiment on July 1st. I’ve posted on here for 20 days straight, and it feels good to stay consistent. It’s nowhere near my record when it comes to daily posting but that’s okay. I don’t remember how long I’ve gone for before but I should probably check soon so I … Continue reading 500 WORDS, DAY 21: Recap / Reason to Write Pt. 2
500 WORDS, DAY 14: Hip-Hop as Powerful Poetry
Yesterday I wrote about my early inspiration for getting into hip-hop. The plan for today is to go more in depth into some thoughts I have on hip-hop, as a genre of music and also as a culture, both past and present. There are a lot of aspects of hip-hop that, if I’m being completely … Continue reading 500 WORDS, DAY 14: Hip-Hop as Powerful Poetry
500 WORDS, DAY 2: As long as you wonder, you are a philosopher
Yesterday I mentioned that I don’t know what my reason for writing is, yet I sit and start letting my brain go free and all this philosophical rigmarole starts pouring out. Cool, so what do I do with it? Where should I take it, in what direction exactly? Where was I going with all this anyway? Oh, right, I was explaining that I don't want a career in this, that this is a very deep and personal journey for me, this philosophical and spiritual thing, and that I don't intend to ever leave it behind, even if I never make a dime from it, because it reminds me that I'm truly alive.
500 WORDS, DAY 1: A Reason to Write?
I've been going over some of my old posts on here and it really makes mewant to write again. I always think about it but I end up putting it to theside. I guess sometimes it just doesn't seem like there's a real reason towrite. I mean, I know there's a reason, but when one … Continue reading 500 WORDS, DAY 1: A Reason to Write?
DAY 36 (1000 WORDS, 3rd attempt)
Some days I feel like I can't find the right inspiration to write from, like I can't find any solid ground to stand on to make any sort of concrete point. All I really have are my own often contradictory ideas and opinions, which are colored by my own life experiences, my own confusions and … Continue reading DAY 36 (1000 WORDS, 3rd attempt)
DAY 35 (1000 WORDS, 3rd attempt)
Yesterday I wrote about my fascination with learning about spiritual ideas from different religions and trying to learn if there's any common origin between them. Today I think I'll write about another fascination of mine, which might not be as intense anymore, but is still a part of my life, and was definitely a huge … Continue reading DAY 35 (1000 WORDS, 3rd attempt)
DAY 34 (1000 WORDS, 3rd attempt)
One of the biggest fascinations of my life has been with the root of spiritual truth. I always wonder where the great spiritual traditions stemmed from, because they all seem to share a lot of similarities yet they seem very difficult to reconcile if we get into the fine details. Jesus said "I and the … Continue reading DAY 34 (1000 WORDS, 3rd attempt)
